This textbook introduces readers to SolidWorks 2012, the world's leading parametric solid modeling package. In this textbook, the author emphasizes on the solid modeling techniques that improve the productivity and efficiency of the users. The textbook consists of 19 chapters that are structured in a pedagogical sequence that makes the book very effective in learning the features and capabilities of the software. Student Projects are added to test the skills of the students. The textbook covers a wide range of topics such as Sketching, Part Modeling, Assembly Modeling, Drafting, Surface Modeling, Blocks, Sheet Metal Design, Equations, Configurations,  and Library Features in SolidWorks 2012.

Every chapter begins with a command section that provides brief information of the commands and tools in SolidWorks 2012. The authors have adopted the tutorial-point-of-view with the learn-by-doing approach throughout the textbook. This approach allows the users to use this textbook initially as a learning tool and then later as a reference material. After reading the textbook, the user will be able to create parts, assemblies, surfaces, sheet metal parts, blocks, drawing views with bill of materials, and also learn the techniques that are essential for designing multiple models of similar geometry with ease.

Some of the Salient Features of this textbook are as follows:
Special graphics are provided with the latest commands or tools, which allow the readers to recognize all the new additions and enhancements in SolidWorks 2012 with ease. The book consists of:

·    Detailed explanation of SolidWorks 2012 commands and tools
·    More than 48 real-world mechanical engineering designs used as tutorials and projects with step-by-step
·    Emphasis on Why and How with explanation
·    Tips and Notes throughout the textbook
·    Self-Evaluation tests and exercises at the end of each chapter
